Astrometry and Near-infrared Photometry of Neptune’s Inner Satellites and Ring Arcs

چکیده
We report 1.87 lm photometry and astrometry of the inner satellites (Proteus, Larissa, Galatea, and Despina) and ring arcs of Neptune, obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope and its near-infrared camera NICMOS. From comparison with the Voyager data obtained at visible wavelengths, the small bodies orbiting within the ring region of Neptune have a near-infrared albedo consistently low, but higher than at visible wavelengths for most of the satellites, ranging from p1.87 lm = 0.058 (Despina) to p1.87 lm = 0.094 (Proteus). The ring arcs display a reddish spectral response similar to the satellites’ in the 0.5–1.9 lmwavelength range. If we consider an earlier photometric measurement of Proteus obtained at K band, the satellite’s albedo shows a depression at 2.2 lm that could be the first spectral evidence for the presence of C”Hor C‰Nbearing material on its surface. Although astrometry of the inner moons of Neptune yields positions consistent with the predictions derived from Voyager images, the long time base between the Voyager and NICMOS observations allows us to refine our knowledge of their mean motions and semimajor axes, and to decrease the errors associated with these measurements. In addition, we confirm a mismatch between the mean semimajor axis of the ring arcs and the location of the 42 : 43 corotation inclined resonance due to Galatea. This result calls into question the ability of this resonance to confine the arcs azimuthally.

Near-Infrared Photometry of Irregular Satellites of Jupiter and Saturn
We present JHK s photometry of 10 Jovian and 4 Saturnian irregular satellites, taken with the Near-InfraRed Imager (NIRI) at the 8-m Gemini North Observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The observed objects have near-infrared colors consistent with C, P and D-type asteroids, although J XII Ananke and S IX Phoebe show weak indications of possible water features in the H filter. The four members of the...

We study the properties of satellites in the environment of massive star-forming galaxies at z ∼ 1.8 in the COSMOS field, using a sample of 215 galaxies on the main sequence of star formation with an average mass of ∼1011 M . At z > 1.5, these galaxies typically trace halos of mass 10 M . We use optical-near-infrared photometry to estimate stellar masses and star formation rates (SFR) of centra...
متن کاملRed, Gray, and Blue: Near Infrared Spectrophotometryof Faint Moons of Uranus and Neptune
Using the CoCo Cold Coronagraph at NASA’s Infrared Telescope Facility on Mauna Kea, we observed the uranian satellites Miranda, Puck, Portia, and Rosalind and the neptunian satellite Proteus in the near infrared (JHK) to determine the albedos of those faint satellites. In V-J, all of Puck, Portia, Rosalind, and Proteus are very blue, similar to the colors of many icy satellites and of water ice...
متن کاملInfrared identification of IGR J09026−4812 as a Seyfert 1 galaxy
Context. IGR J09026−4812 was discovered by INTEGRAL in 2006 as a new hard X-ray source. Thereafter, an observation with Chandra pinpointed a single X-ray source within the ISGRI error circle, showing a hard spectrum, and improving its high-energy localisation to a subarcsecond accuracy. Thus, the X-ray source was associated to the infrared counterpart 2MASS J09023731−4813339 whose JHKS photomet...

The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) is the first of a new generation of hemispheric imaging projects to extend the work of the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) by reaching three magnitudes deeper in Y JHK imaging, to K = 18.2 (5σ, Vega) over wide fields. Better complementing existing optical surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), the resulting public imaging catalogues pr...
